Why the name
A walk-up is a building you reach on foot, by climbing. No lobby, no concierge, no one deciding whether you are worth announcing. You knock, and whoever lives there answers.
The person who takes your first call is the person who draws the first sketch and the person who ships the last commit. The W in the mark climbs for the same reason.
