How engagements are structured
Every project is defined in a written proposal before work begins. The proposal sets out the scope, the deliverables, the timeline and the commercial terms, and is prepared after an initial brief and, where the project warrants it, a consultation. Projects are invoiced in stages aligned with agreed milestones. Website Care is billed monthly, with a twelve-month minimum term for newly built websites, and includes a defined allocation of hours agreed in the engagement.
Work outside the agreed scope, including additional maintenance hours and urgent work outside business hours, is quoted or billed separately at rates stated in the proposal. This structure is intended to make the commercial relationship predictable for both parties throughout the engagement.
Two engagement models for websites
Most websites are delivered as managed websites: the project is followed by a Website Care plan for a minimum of twelve months. We recommend this model because it ensures that a responsible party remains in place after launch, with monitoring, backups, updates and support in operation from the first day.
A standalone website is available to organisations with their own technical team. It includes an extended handover, covering documentation, account transfers and a walkthrough with the team that will operate the site, together with a limited warranty period. Under either model, ownership of the website, the source code, the design files and all associated accounts passes to the client on completion of the project.
Paying over time
For organisations that would rather not meet a project fee in one or two payments, the work can be structured as a reduced initial fee and a fixed monthly amount over an agreed term, with Website Care included throughout. It suits a single-page site built for one objective as readily as a complete multi-page website with a content management system behind it.
At the end of the term, the client either continues with Website Care or acquires the website outright. Ownership, early termination and transfer terms are set out in the agreement at the start of the engagement.
Scope of Website Care
The included hours cover routine maintenance: updates to text and images on existing pages, minor interface fixes, troubleshooting, restoration of forms, links and standard integrations, and minor adjustments to analytics and tracking.
New pages, redesigns and new features, e-commerce functionality and major integrations, content production, SEO content and advertising campaigns, third-party licences and hosting overages, and remediation of websites compromised before onboarding are outside the scope of the plans and are quoted separately.
Existing websites
Websites not built by the studio may join a Website Care plan following a technical onboarding audit. The audit establishes the platform, the installed components, the hosting environment, the state of existing backups, the security posture and the performance baseline, and concludes with a written report and a plan recommendation. Where the audit identifies issues that must be resolved before the site can be maintained responsibly, these are set out in the report with a separate proposal.
Timelines
Indicative timelines are as follows. Logo design: three to four weeks. Brand identity: six to ten weeks. UI/UX design: four to six weeks. Business websites: four to eight weeks from project start to launch, subject to the timely provision of content and approvals. SEO setup is integrated into new builds; for existing websites it is typically completed within two to three weeks including the audit. Ongoing SEO begins with a baseline audit and is recommended for an initial term of six months. Website Care commences on the day of launch or on completion of the onboarding audit.
Choosing where to start
Few businesses need everything at once. If the identity is sound but the website is failing, the website is the project. If the mark falls apart at small sizes and the business is about to print signage, start there. If the site works and nobody finds it, the problem is technical SEO and content, not a redesign. We will say which of these we think it is, including when the answer is that you do not need us yet.
What never changes is the sequence inside a project: structure before surface, content before decoration, and a written scope before an invoice.
