Questions

Frequently asked.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Search visibility builds over months rather than weeks. For that reason we recommend an initial term of at least six months before judging the results. Movement usually appears first in impressions and positions, then in enquiries. Progress is reviewed every quarter against the objectives agreed at the start.

Do you guarantee a position in Google?

No. Search engines decide positions, and anyone who guarantees one is either guessing or using methods that put the site at risk. What we commit to is the work: the content, the technical fixes, and a clear account each month of what was done and what changed.

Who writes the content, you or us?

We write it, to briefs agreed with you, and work with your own specialists where the subject needs expert knowledge. Each piece targets a specific search and goes live only after you approve it. Everything published belongs to the business.

Do you buy backlinks?

No. Bought links and link schemes carry a real risk of penalty, so they are excluded. Authority is built through accurate directory listings, citations in relevant industry publications, and content other sites have a reason to reference.

Our website has never had any SEO work. Can we start with the monthly programme?

Yes, but the programme assumes a sound technical foundation, so we check for one first. Where it is missing, technical SEO setup is carried out before any content work, either as a separate project or as the opening phase of the programme. New content on a site that search engines cannot read properly is wasted effort.

What determines the monthly cost of ongoing SEO?

The scope: how much content is produced each month, how many searches are tracked, and how much technical and authority work the site needs. It is set out in a written proposal before the programme begins and reviewed each quarter. If the site is also under Website Care, technical monitoring and reporting are combined, so the same work is not done twice. To request a baseline audit, write to us through the contact page.

In depth

Ongoing SEO, in depth

What Ongoing SEO comprises

SEO setup establishes the technical foundation for search visibility. Ongoing SEO is the programme that builds on it. Search visibility is not a state achieved at launch but the cumulative result of consistent work: content that answers the questions the business wishes to be found for, technical health maintained as the website changes, and authority developed through relevant references over time. The programme is delivered monthly, reported monthly and reviewed quarterly against objectives agreed in writing at the outset.

Baseline and objectives

The programme begins with a baseline: an audit of current visibility in Search Console and Analytics, an inventory of existing content and its performance, a technical review covering indexing, Core Web Vitals and structured data, and a map of the queries relevant to the business and the pages that should answer them. From this baseline, objectives are agreed in writing: the queries to be pursued, the pages to be created or improved, and the measures by which progress will be assessed. Objectives are expressed in terms the business recognises, such as enquiries from organic search, rather than in rankings alone.

The monthly cycle

Each month follows a consistent cycle. Content is written and published according to the agreed plan, whether new service pages, articles that address specific questions, or improvements to existing pages that underperform. On-page elements are kept current: headings, metadata, internal links and structured data are reviewed as the site changes. Technical health is checked: indexing coverage, crawl errors, broken links, page speed and Core Web Vitals. Where relevant, listings, citations and editorial references are pursued to develop the authority of the domain. The month concludes with a report.

Content

Content is the principal driver of search visibility and the principal component of the programme. Each piece is planned against a specific query or group of queries, written to answer the question thoroughly and in the organisation's register, structured with the heading hierarchy search engines read, and connected to related pages through internal links. Content is produced by the studio from briefs agreed with the client, or in collaboration with the client's own specialists where subject expertise is required. Every piece is reviewed and approved by the client before publication.

Technical monitoring

Websites change, and each change can affect visibility: a page removed without a redirect, a template update that alters headings, a plugin that slows the site, an image that shifts the layout. Technical monitoring identifies these effects within the monthly cycle rather than through declining traffic months later. On websites under Website Care, the monitoring included in the service forms part of the same process; on other websites, the programme includes its own technical review.

Authority

Search engines assess the authority of a website partly through references from other websites. The programme develops this authority through means appropriate to the business: accurate listings in relevant directories, citations in industry publications, and editorial references earned by content worth referencing. We do not purchase links or participate in link schemes, which carry a material risk of penalty and are excluded from the programme.

Reporting

Each month the client receives a report covering impressions, clicks, click-through rate and average position for the agreed queries; organic traffic and the enquiries or conversions attributed to it; the content published and the pages improved; the technical issues identified and resolved; and the priorities for the following month. The report is written in plain language for the person responsible for the business. Each quarter, a review meeting assesses progress against objectives and adjusts the plan and, where appropriate, the scope of the programme.

Scope and duration

The scope of the programme is set by the number of pieces of content produced each month, the number of queries tracked, and the depth of technical and authority work. It is defined in the written proposal and reviewed quarterly. Search visibility develops over months rather than weeks; a minimum initial term of six months is recommended so that results can be assessed on a meaningful basis. The programme can be combined with Website Care, in which case technical monitoring and reporting are consolidated.

What the programme does not include

Ongoing SEO does not include paid search advertising, which is a separate discipline with its own economics. It does not include social media management. It does not include a guarantee of position for any query, which no responsible practitioner can offer. It does include a clear account, each month, of what was done, what changed and what will be done next.

Prerequisites

The programme assumes a website with a sound technical foundation. Where the foundation is absent or incomplete, SEO setup is carried out first, either as a separate project or as the first phase of the programme. Where the website cannot be edited reliably, or its platform prevents the necessary changes, this is identified in the baseline and addressed before content work begins.

Starting the programme

Enquiries can be submitted through the contact form, selecting Ongoing SEO, or by email to hello@walkupdigital.com with the website address and the objectives. We respond within one working day, propose a baseline audit as the first step, and issue a written proposal covering scope, term and reporting before the programme begins.

Ownership

All content produced under the programme belongs to the client on publication. Search Console, Analytics and any listings created are established in the client's name, so that the record of the work and the data it generates remain with the business regardless of the programme's duration.

Search visibility is built month by month, not declared at launch.
